Spotify’s goal is to become the largest global audio network and they are making massive investments in podcasting – including a 400 million dollar acquisition of Gimlet Media, Anchor, and Parcast.
Alex Blumberg, founder of Gimlet, said selling his company was hard but it Spotify’s listener data was too good to turn down.
Blumberg said, “[Spotify] just has so much more understanding of our audience and how they consume podcasts.”
I think the ramifications for marketers are big. This is very telling for things like people’s prefered ways to consume information continue to change and the impact data makes on how you create content.
